The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Inumolen, has alleged that the party’s leadership dispute has affected the participation of some of its candidates in Nasarawa State elections.
Speaking on TVC News’ Beyond The Headlines on Wednesday, Inumolen claimed that candidates loyal to his faction had completed the party’s nomination process but were excluded because of the national leadership dispute.
“In Nasarawa, INEC witnessed the primaries, but the candidate’s name was omitted because there was a national dispute,” he said.
He added that affected candidates had taken legal action against the electoral commission.
“Our candidates whose names were omitted are taking INEC to court.”
According to Inumolen, his faction has continued to organise congresses and primaries despite the pending litigation.
“We continue our activities because the court judgment may favour us. We submit all our proceedings and letters, and we have acknowledgements of every activity we are doing.”
He also claimed that 26 state chairmen support his leadership.
“We have our primaries being run across the states by chairmen who recognise me as the national chairman of the party, and we are submitting everything.”
INEC currently recognises a different national leadership of the Accord Party, while the dispute over control of the party remains before the courts.
