The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has issued a two-week ultimatum to the federal government to address longstanding welfare and remuneration concerns or face a nationwide strike.
Rising from its national executive council meeting in Gombe, the association expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the payment of salary, promotion and professional allowance arrears, as well as outstanding CONMESS review payments and welfare challenges affecting house officers.
It also condemned the growing cases of assaults on doctors and called for stronger legal protection for healthcare workers.
The resident doctors warned that if the federal government fails to meet its demands by August 10, they will commence a total and comprehensive nationwide industrial action.
NARD, however, commended the federal government for disbursing the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund to eligible beneficiaries while urging that omitted doctors be paid without delay.
