TiPresident Bola Tinubu has urged state governors to channel increased federal allocations into road infrastructure instead of constructing flyovers in areas with low traffic.
Tinubu made the call while receiving a delegation of traditional rulers from Oyo State, led by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President said states now receive four to five times more revenue from the Federation Account than in previous years and should prioritise road networks that improve living standards and enhance security operations.
Tinubu also said his administration would not negotiate with terrorists or pay ransom for abducted victims, revealing that kidnappers of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State demanded the release of detained gang members in addition to ransom.
He disclosed that the decision to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions was taken to strengthen security operations, reduce response time and improve the military’s capacity to combat terrorism and banditry.
The President added that the Federal Government would establish state police with safeguards against abuse and strengthen forest guards to tackle insecurity, particularly amid growing security threats linked to instability in neighbouring Sahel countries.
