Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday led mourners at the Jana’iza (funeral prayers) of former Minister of Finance and Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, in Sokoto.
The elder statesman died earlier on Thursday at the age of 88 after a brief illness.

He served as Minister of National Planning and later Minister of Finance during the military administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Following his arrival in Sokoto, the Vice President paid a condolence visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, where prayers were offered for the repose of the late elder statesman.
Shettima described the late Alhaji as “a behemoth of institutional memory” whose contributions to Nigeria’s development would not be forgotten.
He said the former minister would be remembered for his dedicated service to the nation and disclosed that the Federal Government would immortalise him in recognition of his contributions.
