An old video of the late former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi has gone viral online, sparking debate over his comments on global health systems, vaccines, and the origin of viruses.
The resurfaced clip shows Gaddafi making controversial claims about how viruses spread and how vaccines are managed globally.
Viral Video Sparks Debate
In the footage, Gaddafi is heard questioning the global health and pharmaceutical systems, suggesting that profit motives influence how diseases and vaccines are handled.
“They create viruses for profit. Companies are working hard to create them… especially private intelligence agencies,” he said in the old clip.
The video has since sparked widespread reactions online amid the recent hantavirus outbreak.
Vaccine Access and Global Health Claims
Gaddafi also questioned why vaccines are often expensive if they are meant to protect human life.
He argued that life-saving vaccines should be made free and accessible to everyone, especially during global health crises.
“It’s obvious that it’s a business because vaccinations are so expensive. They create a virus and spread it around the world so that capitalist companies can make massive profits. How is this possible? If this virus is threatening the existence of mankind, shouldn’t the vaccine be free and available to everyone?,” he stated.
Reference to Political Philosophy
The former leader also referenced his political philosophy book, the Green Book, stating that his views on public services and healthcare were outlined in it.
He maintained that medical protection should not be treated as a commercial product but as a basic human right.
“Read the Green Book; I have talked about it there. We shouldn’t have to pay for vaccinations; they should be free. If vaccines are free, you will see that many of these unknown viruses will stop appearing and spreading. Even if there is a real virus that is threatening mankind, the whole world should cooperate to develop a vaccine that will be free of charge,” he added.
