Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the umbrella of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) have reaffirmed their confidence in the forum’s chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, dismissing reports of any leadership crisis within the group.
The endorsement came after a closed-door meeting of the forum held in Abuja on Friday, where members discussed internal party matters, preparations for upcoming primaries, and strategies aimed at strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
About 18 governors attended the meeting and unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Uzodimma and his deputy, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
Speaking after the meeting, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris dismissed rumours suggesting that a new leadership had emerged within the forum.
“You can see our chairman here alongside his deputy. There is no division within the forum,” Idris said while formally moving the motion for a vote of confidence in the leadership.
Governor Sani also described media reports alleging a crisis within the forum as false and misleading, stressing that the APC governors remain united.
According to him, the governors are more united than ever and fully committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu and the APC administration.
“We all woke up to those unfortunate reports circulating across media platforms, but the truth is that the Progressives Governors’ Forum remains strong and united,” Sani stated.
He added that the governors were committed to sustaining party unity and ensuring continued support for Tinubu’s administration ahead of the next election cycle.
Earlier in the meeting, Uzodimma said the governors reviewed preparations for the APC primaries and assessed the activities of committees set up by the party to oversee the electoral process at sub-national levels.
He said the governors resolved to strengthen cohesion within the party while reaffirming their collective backing for Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027.
Uzodimma recalled that the forum had recently submitted Tinubu’s expression of interest and nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.
“The APC governors remain united and fully committed to supporting President Tinubu to ensure victory in the next election,” he said.
He further noted that the governors pledged to intensify efforts in delivering good governance, improving citizens’ welfare, and expanding social and economic opportunities across their respective states.
The PGF had earlier dismissed reports claiming that Uzodimma had been removed as chairman of the forum, with the forum’s Director-General, Folorunso Aluko, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The APC currently controls 31 states across the country.
