President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks abroad on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos from Paris, France, aboard Nigerian Air Force One, which taxied into the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6:22pm on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced that Tinubu had departed Paris for Nigeria and was expected to arrive in Lagos later in the evening.
The president travelled to Lagos first to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election and a prominent figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
On Thursday, October 1, Independence Day, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a movie celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The presidency also said Tinubu would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending one week in London before proceeding to Paris.
During his stay in Paris, the President attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group.
The group’s media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
Tinubu also met with the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, on Monday.
Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The project is expected to attract $7bn in investment from DP World, one of the world’s leading ports and logistics operators.
The Presidency said Tinubu would return to Abuja after completing his political engagements in Lagos.
