Primate Elijah Ayodele has urged President Bola Tinubu to cancel any parade planned for Nigeria’s October 1 Independence anniversary, warning that there could be danger if the event goes ahead.
Ayodele made the statement in a post shared on X, where he also advised Nigerians against collecting items or money from politicians in exchange for votes.
He wrote:
“October 1st, President Tinubu should cancel the parade. If he attempts to go ahead with it, there is danger in it. And to Nigerians, don’t collect anything from any politician because of election. Vote your conscience. Vote for the right people. Vote for people who will truly serve the interest of the people. Let us be prayerful and vigilant.”
The Federal Government has already announced a low-key programme for Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, with activities scheduled to include a public lecture on September 30 and a nationwide broadcast by President Tinubu on October 1.
The government’s published programme does not list an Independence Day parade among the announced activities. The Federal Government had also cancelled the parade for the 65th anniversary in 2025.
Ayodele’s warning has generated reactions on social media, with some users questioning his prediction while others criticised or supported his comments.
