The United States has dismissed what it described as false claims by Iranian state media and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) regarding the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, alleged attacks on US military assets and the movement of a commercial oil tanker.
In a statement issued on Friday, US authorities said recent reports carried by Iranian state media were inaccurate and misleading.
On claims that commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz had become unsafe, the US said the threat to civilian vessels stemmed from the IRGC itself.
“The immediate dangers posed to commercial vessels and their civilian crews are the IRGC’s verbal threats and attempted attacks,” the statement said.
The US also denied reports that Iran had destroyed three US F-35 stealth fighters and three other aircraft during a recent attack on an American air base.
“No U.S. aircraft were destroyed or damaged in recent attempted Iranian attacks. All missiles and drones were intercepted or failed to reach targeted areas,” the statement said.
Washington further rejected reports that the commercial oil tanker M/T Nora had breached what it described as a US maritime blockade.
“The commercial vessel has not broken through America’s steel wall blockade. More than 20 U.S. warships, hundreds of aircraft, and thousands of service members remain vigilant and continue to fully enforce the blockade,” the statement added.
