Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Nyesom Wike has ordered the immediate demolition of an illegal shanty settlement near Karmajiji in Abuja’s Kukwaba District, citing growing security threats and intelligence linking the location to criminal activity.

The directive was issued following a meeting of the FCT Security Committee, after which Mr Wike personally led a team of security operatives on an inspection of the site.

Intelligence reports indicated that suspects involved in attacks across parts of the nation’s capital frequently retreated to the informal settlement to evade detection.

Inspecting the area alongside security chiefs, the Minister described the unmapped community as a significant risk to public safety that the administration would not tolerate.

To execute the order, Mr Wike directed FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi to collaborate directly with the Department of Development Control to clear the area promptly.
