Students of Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State, have taken to the streets to protest a reported increase in school fees, expressing concern over the financial burden the new charges could place on students and their families.
The students reportedly reacted angrily after the institution’s fees were said to have risen from about ₦110,000 to ₦319,000.
During the protest, some students questioned the justification for the increase, particularly amid Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges.
“How can they increase school fees by 250% in this current economy in Nigeria?” the protesting students reportedly asked.
The development has sparked concerns among students, many of whom are already struggling with the rising cost of food, transportation, accommodation and other basic necessities.
