Nine Killed As Private Jet Crashes In US State Of Florida

Nine people have died after a private jet crashed into a residential neighbourhood in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States.

The Learjet 60 crashed at about 12:50pm local time on Sunday, November 1, near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine people aboard the aircraft died in the crash.

The jet had departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading to the Bahamas when it went down.

Footage of the incident showed the aircraft plunging from the sky before erupting into a fireball near a busy roadway, leaving a large crater in the pavement and sending thick smoke into the air.

The crash occurred close to residential buildings and passing vehicles, although authorities had not confirmed whether anyone on the ground was injured.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office closed roads around the crash site and urged motorists to avoid the area.

The FAA said it was sending a team to support the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash.

The identities of those killed had not been released as of Sunday evening.
